Increase the number of test sale inspections to 58 by June 2023

This goal is measured by tracking number of test sale inspections.

How are we doing?

In Fiscal Year 2022-2023, we had a goal to complete undercover test sale inspections of recyclable beverage containers at 58 of our registered California Redemption Value (CRV) recycling centers.  We reached that goal, by completing inspections at 58 locations.  The goal for the Fiscal Year 23-24 Operational Plan is also 58 inspections, representing 100% of the total number of registered CRV recycling centers.

Why is this measure important?

We are measuring the number of undercover test sales inspections of recycling businesses that pay out money for recyclable beverage containers (aluminum cans/plastic containers) because it provides and promotes protection for consumers and businesses alike. By increasing inspections, we ensure all recyclers are conducting business on a level playing field and customers are getting paid the correct amount of money for their recyclables, to promote consumer confidence. A number of residents in San Diego County supplement their incomes by recycling aluminum cans and plastic containers.

Where are we going?

We are committed to continuing our undercover recycling test sale program and conducting additional outreach to recycling businesses with the intent to keep a high level of compliance in this industry.
