Businesses, neighborhood diversity, and political participation benefit communities and those in them. However, if these benefits are unevenly accessible to people because of their race, gender, disability, place of birth, they can exacerbate inequity. This section reviews equity indicators related to communities and civic life: business ownership, diversity within neighborhoods, and voter registration.
